Plant ID & health
POST /v1/plant · $0.01 a call
Send a photo of a plant. A vision model proposes the most likely species and any visible health problems. Every species is checked against GBIF, the Global Biodiversity Information Facility: names that are not real plants are dropped, outdated names are moved to the accepted one, and common names come from GBIF. Pet toxicity follows the ASPCA lists, and each health problem comes with fixed treatment steps.
For plant identifiers, plant care reminders, garden and houseplant apps.
Request
Send the photo as image (multipart), image_base64 or image_url, as described in the overview. These optional fields go alongside it:
| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
context | string, up to 500 characters | What the user knows, e.g. "bought as a rubber plant, leaves dropping since I moved it". |
location | string, up to 100 characters | Region or country, so native and common species rank higher, e.g. "Kerala, India". |
organ | one of leaf, flower, fruit, bark, whole_plant | What the photo mainly shows, if you know. |
Photo tips. Fill the frame with one healthy-looking leaf, plus a flower or fruit if there is one. Daylight, in focus. For problems, also shoot the damaged leaf up close.

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
summary | One line: the best match, how sure, and the main health issue. |
is_plant | false when there is no plant in the photo; the other fields are then empty. |
identification.best | The most likely species (or genus), or null. |
identification.candidates[] | scientific_name (GBIF accepted name), common_name, common_names, rank, family, genus, confidence 0 to 1, gbif_key, verified, synonym_of when the model used an older name, features. |
identification.verified_with_gbif | false when GBIF could not be reached; names are then the model’s, unchecked. |
health.status | healthy, minor_issues, unhealthy or severe, from the worst problem found. |
health.issues[] | type, label, severity (mild, moderate, severe), evidence, and treatment steps. |
toxicity | status (known or unknown), cats, dogs, horses (true, false or null), notes, source. |
care | light, water, humidity, temperature, soil, and source: "table" for our genus guide, "model" otherwise. |
photo | organs seen, setting (indoor, outdoor), quality, and a tip when a better photo would help. |
Example
Output of this API's own code on a sample photo. Values will differ for your photos.
